What is a Political Prisoner?
22. April 2010
Lecture within the series of workshops “idioms of social analysis”
In this talk, Padraic Kenney will consider ways to understand the political prisoner as an actor in modern societies. Drawing upon archival research conducted in Poland, South Africa, and Ireland, he will propose that we need to ask why states have gone to great lengths to hold political prisoners, and why opposition movements have often seen value in this position.
